You can't tell whether your marketing is working.

Most marketing reports describe the past. Useful reports change the next month's plan. The fix is rarely a new dashboard. It is a different question.

Who recognises this

  • You get reports from your agency or freelancer and don't know what to do with them.
  • You open Google Analytics and can't tell whether to invest more, cut or change direction.
  • You track followers and clicks, but not how many clients came from them.
  • Your data lives in five places and no decision comes out of it.

Why this usually happens

  • The numbers you track were inherited from someone, not chosen by you.
  • Reports say what happened, not what to do next.
  • Followers, likes and clicks aren't connected to clients or revenue.
  • There are too many numbers and none that help you decide.
  • Nobody looks at the numbers regularly or decides anything from them.

What I would look at first

I start with the decisions you need to make each month and only then choose the numbers. The goal is a few reliable numbers that change next month's plan. Not a dashboard with everything in it.

  • The decisions you make each month: where to invest, what to cut, what to change.
  • Three to five numbers connected to clients and revenue.
  • Where clients come from, accurately enough to decide.
  • A set moment each month to look at the numbers and adjust the plan.

Where this usually leads

  • Start with the marketing diagnostic to see which numbers actually help you decide.
  • Then decide what to track and how often. If it makes sense, ongoing support follows.
